Dendrobates tinctorius “ Inferalanis ”
|
This frog is one of the many morphs that came out of Surinam in about 1999, in a great wave of new morphs. This frog is often confused with the “Alanis” morph, which is very similar. The Inferalanis is a somewhat larger frog than the Alanis, and has bright yellow coloration where the Alanis has a pale yellow or off white coloration. Inferalanis also show a somewhat different body shape, most are a bit more slender frog than the other large tinctorius morphs, such a standard Cobalt or Powder blue. |

Inferalanis are curiously similar to Giant Orange as froglets, and it would be easy to confuse these two morphs up through a couple of months of age or more. I am surprised that there is not more interest in the Inferalanis in particular, as they are a striking frog with some of the brightest yellow you will find on a dart frog. Inferalanis seem somewhat more difficult to sex, and there is often not a lot of difference in the toepad width from one sex to another. |
